2016: A Year in Review
The year 2016 means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Some people love it and some people hate it. For me, 2016 was one of my favorite years so far! I had a lot of fun looking back on how I spent my year, so here’s a breakdown of my 2016!
January
2016 was my wedding year, so in January we were finishing up our wedding planning before May! One fun thing we did in January was going shopping for our wedding registry. We hadn’t even started looking at houses yet, but it was exciting to pick out all the things we would need for our future home! Biggest issue: Who got to be in charge of the scanner!
February
In February we went on our annual Mardi Gras Disney trip! This was our first time back since Nick had proposed and we got to go with some of our best friends! Paris and I hadn’t been to Disney together since 2011, so this trip was much anticipated. We ate at Be Our Guest for the first time and it was amazing!
March
We started house hunting in March and within two weeks, we found our first home! Although we didn’t close on our house until May, this was the day that the house was officially marked as “SOLD”! Later in the month, I had my beautiful Tangled bridal shower! We had only two more months until our wedding.
April
April was a fun and busy month. I took my bridals at my house and had to keep them to myself for a whole month until the wedding! A few weeks later, I was headed to Destin for my bachelorette trip with my bridesmaids. We stayed in a beautiful condo and had great weather on the beach. With less than a month until the wedding, the idea of becoming Mrs. Killebrew was getting more and more real!
May
I can’t believe how fast May got here! Between finishing up last minute wedding details and closing on our house, we were nonstop all month. Nick and I celebrated our one year engagement anniversary on May 19th and were married on May 20th! We had an amazing time celebrating with family and friends, and we were off to California on our honeymoon the next morning! We visited Laguna Beach, Hollywood, and Disneyland. When we got home, we finished unpacking our new house! May was probably my favorite month of the year.
June
A few weeks after our honeymoon we were right back to the beach! Nick’s annual family vacation to Destin did not disappoint. I’ll never pass up a trip to the beach! It was a great little getaway after a busy month of May. Besides our beach trip, I finally got my name changed and our addresses changed to our new home.
July
Nick and I spent Independence Day weekend with our good friends in Grand Isle! My forever friend Casey and I used to spend summers in Grand Isle throughout our childhood, so we loved the trip down memory lane. On July 14, I celebrated my 23rd birthday with family and friends! July was also a month of weddings! We attended two of our first weddings as a married couple!
August
Even before Nick and I got married, we always knew we wanted a puppy of our own one day. I’ve always wanted a little yorkie puppy and on August 21 we found our Roux! It took us a few days to finally decide on her name, but now we couldn’t imagine any other name than Roux Killebrew. When she was younger, I used to bring her with me to work and this was one of the photos from her office photoshoot!
September
In September I started blogging consistently again! I also started making plans for my blog thanks to Girls Nights with Allison and Lizzie! Nick and I also made a trip to Thibodaux to celebrate Casey and Evan’s baby shower for little Noah Michael! The theme was Noah’s Ark and it was adorable!
October
October was a month of birthdays! So many people to celebrate including my husband and my bestie. I also made my third trip of the year to Destin for Hillary’s Bachelorette trip. On the trip I got my first massage, shopped till I dropped, and was named trip MVP! We had only two weeks left until Hillary’s wedding, so it was a fun last hoorah!
November
November was definitely a month I’m thankful for. Casey and Evan had their little baby Noah Michael, who made his arrival two weeks early! Hillary and Justin got married and it was such a fun night! Nick, Roux, and I celebrated our first Thanksgiving as a family. We finished out the month with Nick and I starting our new tradition. I got to attend my first Saints game in the Superdome!
December
I attended my final wedding of the year for the marriage of Allison and Josh Ryan and it was quite a memorable night! Nick and I started our Christmas traditions this year, like Christmas cards and picking out a real tree. On the 14th I made one year at Anntoine Marketing + Design and we had our first office Christmas party. After many months of anticipation, the trio finally put together a date night and it was a success! Christmas with family and friends was a blast and we are finishing off the year at a lake house with family for the weekend!
Looking back on the twelve months of 2016, I’m so thankful for the year I’ve had! It’s been one with a lot of firsts, but I think that’s what’s made it so exciting. I’m hopeful that 2017 will be even better!
