Roux Rocks The Dots

Can you believe Halloween is almost here already? I feel like the month of October just started and now it’s nearly over! When I think of Halloween, I think of costume planning and there is no exception when it comes to our furbaby Roux

I knew that I wanted to go Disney with her costume, so I took to Pinterest for inspiration.  I ran across so many cute ideas, but one classic look stood out! I found this adorable Minnie Mouse costume and immediately fell in love. After doing a little research I realized that the costume wasn’t for sale anywhere, but I decided to try and make it myself at home!

If you have a Disney loving pup like me, here’s my DIY way for them to Rock the Dots this Halloween!

What You’ll Need:

  • Fabric Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Two Sheets of White Felt
  • Two Sheets of Black Felt
  • One Sheet of Red Felt (optional)
  • One Roll of Red Tulle
  • One Roll of Red Elastic
  • A Red Bow
  • A Pack of Small French Hair Barrettes

Instructions:

  • To make the skirt, begin cutting the red tulle into strips of the same length. The length will vary based on the size of the dog, but for a toy breed like Roux I would suggest six inches in length per strip.
  • Grab your red elastic and measure your dog’s waist to make sure it will fit properly. Once you’ve got that measurement, create the waistline with the elastic. To make mine I simply double knotted the elastic, but if you prefer to sew it or use velcro go for it!
  • Now that the tulle strips are cut and the waistline is created, begin tying the tulle around the elastic. I like to double up on my tulle strips to create a bolder red!
  • Your tulle skirt can be as thick or as thin as you want, it all depends on your taste. For Roux’s skirt I decided to make it a more thick and fluffy, but I stopped at halfway on the waistline.
  • To make the headpiece, I started with the mouse ears first! I found this stencil online and printed the PDF out at 35% so the ears would be puppy-sized.
  • Cut out the stencil and trace it twice on a sheet of black felt. Once both stencils have been cut out, fold each of them in half and hot glue them to create the two mouse ears. Space them out on the front of the barrette and hot glue them down.
  • Next take the white felt and start to cut out small white circles. I chose to place the dots on my red bow and skirt as I went so I was able to keep myself from making too many!
  • Once you’ve placed your dots, use your hot glue gun to put all of the dots permanently in place.

I really love the way this costume turned out! This is just the perfect touch of Disney that my puppy girl needs this Halloween. I think it’s safe to say that Roux is officially ready for trick or treaters!

Oh my gosh this is so cute. My sister-in-law has fur babies and for Christmas every year I get them something small. Maybe I’ll get adventurous and make them all a little tutu this year!

LOVE this! She looks too cute – but also like she is ready to get out of her costume, lol! Theo is going to be a lobster for Halloween… he is not thrilled about it. I need to cut ear holes in his costume!
