Disney Eats: 50’s Prime Time Cafe

Disney food never disappoints, so when the theming is something extra special you know it’s going to be a great time! Near Gertie the Dino and Echo Lake in Disney’s Hollywood Studios there’s a little slice of yesteryear that you’ll want to see for yourself.

50’s Prime Time Cafe is classic American comfort food with a fun 50’s twist! Between the vinyl chairs, formica, and TV’s at every table, you’ll definitely feel like you’re in a blast from the past.

In a vacation destination where chicken nuggets and burgers can quickly become every meal, restaurants like 50’s Prime Time Cafe can be exactly what you need when you’re craving some good old comfort food! With a menu that includes pot roast, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, and much more, there’s something for everyone.

Be sure to bring your appetite and a sense of humor though, because you may end up with a lesson or two in table manners if you don’t mind your p’s and q’s!

Pro Tip: No Elbows on the Table! (It’s right on the menu — and they’ll definitely call you out!)

I dined at 50’s Prime Time Cafe only once as a kid, so I was eager to give it another go on my most recent Disney trip! I remembered how themed it was and that we had TV’s right at our table. This time, I actually enjoyed watching the TV’s and looking at all the details of a time that I never lived in but have always admired! Being that I am a recent Mickey Mouse Club fanatic, I was so excited that we got to see an excerpt from the original cast back in the 50’s as well as some Leave it to Beaver.

In my opinion, Disney can do no wrong when it comes to pot roast and 50’s Prime Time Cafe did not disappoint. My Mom’s Old-fashioned Pot Roast was absolutely delicious and just the meal I needed to get fueled up for the rest of my park day! I mean can you really beat slow-cooked ‘til fork tender pot roast served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Brown Gravy, and garnished with Julienne Carrots, and Celery?!

Paris tried the Sampling of Mom’s Favorite Recipes which featured Golden-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings! This option was perfect for anyone who is stuck between a few of the 50’s Prime Time Cafe favorites. (Also a great bang for your buck option if you’re on a Dining Plan!)

Before you can even think about dessert, you better make sure you eat all of your dinner! You will get called out if you don’t finish eating before ordering your dessert (been there, done that), so save yourself the trouble!

A Sampling of Mom’s Favorite Recipes

If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, your meal will come with an entree and a dessert so get excited! 50’s Prime Time Cafe features some pretty yummy desserts like cheesecake, a warm apple crisp, ice cream sundaes, and so much more.

I’m a wannabe strawberry cheesecake connoisseur, so of course I had to go for this dessert choice. Paris chose Dad’s Favorite Chocolate-Peanut Butter Layered Cake and let’s just say it made me wish that I liked chocolate because it looked amazing!

If you’re looking to give this blast from the past a go, be sure to make a dining reservation before your next trip! Advanced reservations are strongly suggested, but you can always request seating at the nearby Tune-In Lounge is you miss out on one. (Tune-In Lounge is on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations are not accepted)

Mom’s Old-fashioned Pot Roast

I think one of the reasons I love this restaurant is all of the extra effort that goes into this dining experience. From the ambiance to the cast members to the costumes to the food, you feel like you’re taken back in time and I just find that to be pretty cool! In a park that continues to become more about intellectual property and less about originality, this creative dinner concept is one of my favorite parts of Disney’s Hollywood Studios these days.
