Disney Parks, Engaged

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

As a child, it’s every little girl’s dream to find their Prince Charming to sweep them off their feet and take all their troubles away.  Unlike most little girls, I didn’t feel the same.  When you’re a child of divorce, it’s really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  It’s hard to believe that someone is gonna be with you forever like the say.  It’s hard to trust someone with your heart and break down those walls.  Nick was able to take all of those fears away.

After dating for over three years, Nick and I took a trip to my favorite place on earth for a week after he graduated college this May.  I thought that it was just a normal trip to Walt Disney World because he knows how much I love to go every chance I can!  For our first day in the parks we were set to go to Magic Kingdom.  Back in March when we planned the trip, I had no idea why he was so focused on going to that park first, but I just brushed it off.  We walked up to the gates right after the park had opened for the day, so my main concern was trying to rush to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

As we tapped our Magic Bands and headed into the park, I was ready to start hauling it to Fantasyland.  Nick, on the other hand, had an agenda of his own.  He started suggesting that we take pictures by the castle since it was still the beginning of the day.  Though I was a little confused, but I agreed and kept reminding him that we needed to rush to Fantasyland!  FullSizeRender (2)

Once we finished taking pictures on Main Street, I was ready to get rolling! Nick happened to notice that a new photo spot had opened up since we were there in February.  When he suggested taking pictures again, I agreed remembering that we had paid for the Memory Maker package and should make the most of it.  I turn around to put down my purse and by the time I get ready to pose for the picture, the Disney Photopass photograher runs off.  Still having my sights on riding the Mine Train, I start complaining to Nick about her running off randomly.  “As soon as we walk away, she’s gonna come back” I said.  He replied, “Let’s just wait it out.”

Never have I seen someone as calm as Nick was that morning.

The original photographer returned with a second photographer, but I thought nothing of it.  I got ready to pose, smiled, and took the pictures.

Once the photos were complete, Nick handed the photographer his phone.  He said he wanted to get some pictures on his phone as well.  We posed for those last few pictures, then I began to walk away.  Nick pulled my hand back, and his voice started trembling.  I could tell something was going on, but it hadn’t quite hit me yet.  He started talking about how we have been together for three years, I was the love of his life, and that he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me…

THAT’S. WHEN. IT. HIT. ME.

I started denying it.  I couldn’t believe this was happening to me!  I had been dreaming about this day for awhile now and Nick knew that Walt Disney World was a very important place to me.  I started tearing up and he started tearing up.

And then it happened.

He grabbed my hand and got down on one knee.  I was shocked, speechless, and couldn’t believe it.  Here I am at my favorite place on earth with the man of my dreams…GETTING PROPOSED TO IN FRONT OF THE CASTLE.  What did I ever do to deserve such an amazing guy?!  He says, “Kaitlyn Brooke Fickle…Will you marry me?

I said “YES” of course…

It took a solid 15 minutes for it to finally sink in that we were engaged!

After the 15 minutes of shock, we started walking to the front of the park to go grab our Just Engaged pins.  Then Nick dropped another surprise on me!  He made us reservations at Cinderella’s Royal Table in the castle for lunch!  I broke down again.  I could not believe that I was so blessed to have a man that would go so above and beyond for me!

11216599_10204027400592845_2271992771307290321_oNow that we were engaged it was time to call our parents!  We sat down on the steps by the Main Street train station and began to call.  Both sides were so thrilled and excited for us! When I woke up on that Tuesday morning, I had no idea what kind of a day I was about to have.

The best part was, the day hadn’t even started yet!  It was the first day of our trip, still the early morning, and we already had so much to look forward to throughout the rest of our week there!  I love that Nick set it up toward the beginning so we would have the whole week to celebrate!  After all the phone calls and excitement, it was time to use some our fastpasses!  By the time we had used our FastPass+ reservations for the day, it was time to go to lunch!  Under our reservation, Nick had included a note that we would be getting engaged so we really got the royal treatment!

After meeting Cinderella downstairs, we were brought to our table and congratulated.  We got to meet the princesses and enjoy some time together at the ultimate dining spot in Magic Kingdom!  Eating at Cinderella’s Royal Table was extra special to me because I hadn’t eaten there since I was a little girl!  What I thought was so perfect about Nick making those reservations was that I had never made a huge fuss about eating in the castle.  He just knew that eating there would be the cherry on top to the perfect day!

The lunch was delicious and the experience was magical!

We got Just Engaged hats made and enjoyed the rest of our day!  Being engaged in Walt Disney World is like nothing else.  My favorite part about the experience of being engaged was for the rest of the week, everyone throughout the parks were so kind and excited for us.  They were interested in hearing about how it happened and when!  It was so refreshing to be in a place where everyday was about fun and making memories.

All in all the entire trip was completely perfect, but it was all thanks to the love of my life.  With all of the care and love that he put into those details for the engagement on the first day set the tone for the rest of the trip.

The point of this story is that now I do believe in fairy tales.  I do believe in happy endings.  I do believe that everyone has someone special waiting just for them.  I’m not saying that I believe things will be perfect all the time, that’s an unrealistic statement.  What I am saying is that we are all meant to have someone who can help us appreciate the good when things seem bad.  God has a plan for all of us and mine is to be Kaitlyn Killebrew one day.

And yes, we did ride the Mine Train.

OMG I’m so jealous! 🙂 I just said to myself as I began to read first few sentences that not everyone dreams of prince charming and you went for it. But it seems you found yours in the end 🙂 Awww
