Disney Eats: The Wave
I’ll never pass up a chance to visit Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It always brings back memories of childhood meals at Chef Mickey’s, visiting the little mall on the main floor looking for the perfect souvenir, and being in such amazement at the idea of a monorail going straight through a resort!
Now that I’m older, some things have changed. I only attend Chef Mickey’s every few trips (because I’ve moved on to all things pot roast), I window shop at that little mall on the main floor (Can we talk about the fact that they now sell Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines there? When did that happen?), but I do still feel some sense of amazement riding on a monorail through the resort!
When most people think of dining at the Contemporary Resort, they think of two restaurants: Chef Mickey’s and California Grill. While these are two amazing dining experiences, there are still other restaurants at this resort worth trying! One we tried on our last trip was The Wave.
We decided to book a dining reservation at The Wave after our great lunch experience at the Grand Floridian Cafe the day before! We wanted to continue our tour of the monorail route with a late breakfast at the Contemporary Resort and The Wave fit our plans perfectly.
What’s cool about The Wave is that it’s open most of the day, serving for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Guests can chose between an array of options on their menu or from their all-you-can-eat buffet. See something on the menu that didn’t make the buffet? No problem, you can ask your server for an order of french toast or even fresh eggs and they will bring them right to the table for you!
Our family decided to go the buffet route because we were able to try a little bit of everything! My mom raved over the sweet potato pancakes, and I was happy to stock up on Mickey waffles. We enjoyed a relaxing meal in a low key atmosphere and got ready to take on our day at Magic Kingdom!
While this restaurant may not be at the top of any lists, I think it’s worth talking about because it’s the low key experience that guests need from time to time in the hectic Disney atmosphere! It’s perfect for guests staying at the resort who want a sit down meal without the hassle of having to book far in advance. It’s also a great way for guests who aren’t staying at the resort to still have a chance to come explore the Contemporary past just the monorail doors.
And if you needed any other reason to check out The Wave, Annual Passholders can take advantage of a 20% discount! I don’t know about you, but when it comes to Disney I’m always looking to save money. Check out their full menu here!
So next time you’re on your My Disney Experience app looking for a table service reservation, consider The Wave! You’re in for some exceptional service, great food, and a chance to visit one of my favorite resorts.

January 2, 2018 at 2:07 pmI haven’t been to Disney since 2014 (we stayed off the resort) but I remember staying in the Contemporary when I was little! My little self was absolutely mind-blown by the monorail and crazy assortment of cereal at the restaurants (it’s the little things, right??). I hope to return to Disney soon to run the Disney Half-Marathon, and I’m putting the Wave on my food list!
