Punch It, Chewie!

Who knew my first post of 2020 would be about Star Wars? I certainly wouldn’t have guessed it! You see, before late November 2019 the Star Wars franchise didn’t mean anything to me or Nick. We’ve always enjoyed riding Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but that was the extent of our attachment to the brand. 

Thanks for our convincing friends (looking at you Jenn and Adam) and a Disney+ subscription, after returning from our November Walt Disney World vacation we finally decided to dive into the Star Wars franchise. We watched the films in order of release rather than chronologically so we could get the full experience! 

If I’m being honest, we were very lost during the original trilogy. It takes some time to get acquainted with the characters! Once we started watching the prequel trilogy, it was smooth sailing. Although we did find that once we watch episodes I-III, we had to urge to rewatch episodes IV-VI again!

When we started this journey we knew we had ten films to watch before the last episode Rise of Skywalker would release in theaters. Before we knew it, we had watched them all! With just episode VIII left the experience, I traveled back to Walt Disney World for one last time in 2019 with my little sis.

One of our top priorities was experiencing Walt Disney World’s newest attraction, Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! While I normally avoided all things Star Wars, it was nice to be able to truly immerse myself in the new land while riding this much anticipated attraction. Riding Rise of the Resistance was easily the highlight of our entire trip!

The same night that I returned home, Nick and I went to see The Rise of Skywalker in theaters. We loved the film, and ended up seeing it again less than one week later! It’s amazing how opinions can change in such a short period of time. I’m very grateful that we finally decided to find our way with the Force! It’s been a lot of fun experiencing this new franchise together.

Since our new appreciation of Star Wars, its been great to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! While I was there last week I got these fun shots with Chewy outside of the Millennium Falcon. (Thanks Patty!) I’m so excited to take Nick back to Batuu sometime this year now that we’ve finished all of the films. I think he’s really going to enjoy Rise of the Resistance!

I guess the moral of this story is, don’t knock something until you try it! As someone who wasn’t for this new land or having any part in experiencing the franchise, I’m so glad I’ve changed my tune. With every film at our fingertips thanks to Disney+, there’s never been a better time to check them out! What are you waiting for?
