Pineapple Pinup | My First Dapper Day
My oh my what a wonderful day! (Dapper Day that is.) Almost two weeks ago I got experience a pretty fun Disney first. I attended my very first Dapper Day at Walt Disney World!
You may be wondering — What’s Dapper Day?
Dapper Day is a semi-annual event that takes place in the Anaheim, Orlando, and Paris Disney Parks every spring and fall. Each of the Disney Parks have their events on different weekends, so if someone wanted to participate at all three locations they could — which I think is awesome!
This year the dates were:
Sunday, April 22 — Disneyland Resort in Anaheim
Saturday, April 28 — Magic Kingdom in Orlando
Sunday, April 29 — Epcot in Orlando
Saturday, May 5 — Disneyland Paris
The idea behind Dapper Day is to celebrate the tradition of “Stepping Out in Style”. Dressing in your Sunday best — like guests used to do in the 50’s and 60’s at Disneyland! It’s hard to imagine such attire in the Disney Parks when most guests these days are dressed for comfort on their Disney days.
Most Dapper Day goers tend to dress in 50’s and 60’s attire, but the event isn’t era-specific. It’s really fun to see all of the different eras of fashion trends throughout the park on Dapper Day.
Dapper Day was started by self-proclaimed “eccentric dresser” Justin Jorgensen. Jorgensen was initially inspired by Walt Disney Imagineering concept design illustrations from the early days of Disneyland. While working as a creative consultant for Disney Imagineering he became intrigued by the concept art and began to wonder what it would be like if guests today dressed up for the parks like the people in the artwork. The very first Dapper Day took place in February 2011 at Disneyland in Anaheim.
Since the first Dapper Day the event as only continued to grow in popularity year after year! Most guests pull inspiration for their Dapper Day looks from Disney characters, attractions, and lands. It’s fun to see how everyone’s creativity has a chance to shine at these events!
For my first Dapper Day, I drew my outfit inspiration from a land in Magic Kingdom — Adventureland! Although I really can’t pick a favorite land in Magic Kingdom, I’d have to say I’ve been vibing with Adventureland lately when it comes to style and snacks. (A Dole Whip is a must for me everything I’m in Magic Kingdom!) Also pineapples have been making an appearance in quite a few of my Disney Style looks — What can I say? I like what I like. I think this look was perfect for my first Dapper Day experience!
It was very fun explaining to the park guests who didn’t know about Dapper Day why we were all dressed up! Our outfits were a conversation starter which was really cool!
I’d have to say my favorite part of this day was connecting with the fellow Disney lovers! I was able to finally meet friends that I’d been talking to online for over a year. Other friends I ended up making that day! It was truly a magical and heartwarming experience.
As someone who didn’t know when she would get to check this Disney event off of her bucket list, I’m so thankful that I was able to attend last month. Fingers crossed that I’ll be able to make it back for Fall! It’s a personal dream of mine to attend a Dapper Day at Disneyland in Anaheim since that’s the location that started it all. Here’s to hoping it happens someday!
