Down in New Orleans: Tour NOLA Like Tiana
Have you ever wanted to see New Orleans like Princess Tiana? Visiting all of the famous locations from the movie like the Garden District, St. Louis Cathedral, Treme, and even one of the St. Louis Cemeteries! If you’re looking to make the most of your time while visiting the Big Easy, look no further!
Cajun Encounters offers an array of tours in the New Orleans area including city bus tours, walking tours, swamp tours, and plantation tours. No matter what part of New Orleans culture is on your bucket list, Cajun Encounters has got you covered!
I had the chance to take a city bus tour in the morning and after all of the sights we saw around the city that day, I was ready to watch Princess and the Frog all over again! Being a Louisiana native who lives only about an hour away from the city, it was great to get a chance to learn more about this major part of our state.
We were picked up for our tour on Decatur Street, which is right in the heart of the French Quarter. I thought this was a perfect pick up location because, after being given the tip to arrive early, I was able to explore in the nearby French Market while waiting for the bus to arrive! Before beginning our tour, the bus made its rounds to the nearby hotels to pick up other tourists who booked tours as well. I found this to be a major plus for out of town guests looking for something to do in the city without  having to travel very far away from their hotel!
As the tour began we passed through the French Quarter, learning about famous NOLA locations like Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde, and the French Market. The tour continued down Frenchman Street, a neighborhood of New Orleans know for it’s popular live-music venues such as Snug Harbor and the Spotted Cat. You’ll pass Treme and learn about the colorful shotgun houses that line the streets similar to one that Tiana grew up in. Our tour guide was great about providing the humor, fun facts, and southern charm all along the way to our first destination!
Our first stop on the tour was the St. Louis Cemetery. We got a chance to walk around the cemetery and learn a little bit more about this unique burial arrangement that isn’t exactly possible in other parts of the country!
While I didn’t think I would enjoy this part of the tour, I surprisingly found it very fascinating! After a little exploring we hopped back on the bus and headed to to our next stop.
I was born ready for our next stop! We were headed Morning Call, a famous cafe in New Orleans! Here’s your chance to try those delicious beignets you’ve been eying up while watching the Princess and the Frog. As a part of your morning tour, an order of beignets and a drink per person is included!
Your tour guide will supply you with a token before entering the cafe and your server will know what to do from there. Morning Call is open 24 hours a day and has a constant flow of daily visitors, so if you have the opportunity to tip your server be sure to do it! The hard working staff will truly appreciate it.
After about 30 minutes at one of my favorite spots in NOLA, you’re back on the bus to finish the rest of your tour. While on the city bus tour you’ll pass the beautiful Garden District mansions like one where Charlotte lived in the movie . You may see beads hanging from trees and power lines as the tour cruises down St. Charles Avenue as one of the many Mardi Gras parade routes in the city!
Once the tour has ended, your guide will drop you off at whichever destination you came from, but if you’re still looking to explore the city ask to be dropped off near Jackson Square! We got off the bus here and took some time to visit the St. Louis Cathedral, where Naveen and Tiana got married, and the beautiful surrounding areas of the French Quarter! Although our tour had ended, we were able to take our newfound NOLA knowledge and run with it around the city!
A city bus tour is a great way to see New Orleans in any weather condition! When you’re planning a trip in advance, you can always count on South Louisiana’s unpredictable weather. Before going on our tour, we were prepared for the Louisiana heat, but instead it ended up being a humid and rainy day. As we loaded the city bus, we were so glad that we were able to see so much of the city without worrying about the outside elements!
Booking a tour with Cajun Encounters is a must do if you’re visiting NOLA! Whether it’s a swamp tour, a plantation tour, or a city bus tour, you’re going to have a great time down in New Orleans. Scheduling your tour is easy and can be done right on their website. This is also a great place to learn more about each of their tour options!
After taking this initial tour of the Big Easy, I’m definitely down for another NOLA day sometime soon. Next time I wouldn’t mind grabbing some great seafood while I’m down there!
Which Princess and the Frog scene in New Orleans would you like to visit someday?
