Imagine a much more attainable option that still packs the punch when it comes to theming and touches of magic. That’s the Royal Rooms for you!
My family tends to stay off grounds for our Disney trips, so until last year I hadn’t even heard of this hidden gem of a room! Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside debuted these specialty rooms back in March 2012 and they have been a hit ever since.
The story behind these Royal Rooms is that Princess Tiana has invited some of her royal friends for a vacation getaway. After their stay, her friends have left behind some pretty magical momentos that can be found all over the Royal Guest Room!
When you enter the room you’ll find a note from Princess Tiana herself welcoming you to her Royal Guest Room. The more time you spend looking around, the more magic you’ll find! Even after finishing our stay, I was still in awe over all of the details. From the headboard that displays fireworks in the night sky scene at the click of a button to the genie lamp shaped faucet, there was just so much magic to be found!
If you’ve never had the chance to visit Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts, the Royal Rooms would be the perfect excuse to head down the bayou and see what they are all about. I’ve already talked a little about Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter in this post, but I have to say that I was even more blown away by Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside!
The gorgeous mansion-like buildings feature stately columns and gables, beautiful courtyards with water features, and some serious Garden District feels. You’ll feel like you’re staying at Lottie’s house from Princess and the Frog!
In addition to the gorgeous architecture of the buildings, Port Orleans Riverside is walking distance from its sister resort Port Orleans French Quarter and offers beautiful bridges and walking paths to venture between the two. You can also partake in fun resort activities like a horse-drawn carriage rides, surrey bike rentals, campfires on the bayou, and so much more.
The Port Orleans resorts also offers a ferry boat down the river to Disney Springs! I highly suggest making the trip at least once. It’s a relaxing ride to lots of shopping and fun, all while taking in the peacefulness of the great outdoors — something we don’t really see much in the parks.
Royal Guest Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside run between $260-$400 per night depending on time of year and availability. While this room price may sound like a bit of a splurge, when comparing pricing to other moderate Disney resorts you’re really getting some bang for your buck with this one! Pro Tip: Only Stay in the Royal Rooms for a Night or Two!
There’s nothing wrong with only booking a few nights to check this item off of your resort bucket list. On my latest trip, I spent two of my six nights at the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside and the rest of our trip at All Star Music! Not only was this a more affordable option, but Disney really makes it so easy to switch resorts in the middle of a stay as well. With the ability to check out over the phone and luggage service storing and transporting your bags for you, you’ll be able to check out and check into your new resort without skipping any park time! I was really so impressed with the level of service on Disney’s part that I will definitely do something similar when attempting to cross a few more luxury Disney resorts off of my list!
