The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide for Baby’s First Christmas
We just celebrated our first Christmas as new parents and I had so much fun helping Santa shop for our baby girl. She’s still so young, learning and growing every day. I made sure all of her gifts were toys that could grow with her so we could enjoy them as much as possible! For any new mamas shopping for their baby for a birthday or Christmas, these are my favorite finds for babies 6 months and older. Keep reading for my ultimate gift guide for babies 6+ months!
Baby Stocking Stuffers
What’s a gift guide without stocking stuffers? While baby girl isn’t quite old enough for candy and treats in her stocking, here are some of my favorite finds to stuff in her stocking this year.
Teething Rings
Our daughter started teething around 11 weeks old and hasn’t stopped since! While we only have two teeth currently, something tells me others will be coming soon. I purchased quite a few teether options right out of the gate but learned quickly that it takes time for a baby to figure out how teethers work. These Itzy Ritzy teething rings were a new addition for Christmas, but she has loved them so far. We like to link them together in a chain to give her something fun and colorful to play with in the car or on her playmat. There are a few color options, but I liked this rainbow set because we’ve been focusing more on learning colors recently!
Baby Remote Control
I don’t know about y’all, but our daughter has become so observant as she’s grown. We noticed she started eyeing up our remote (wanting to chew on it, of course) so we knew we needed to grab her one of her own. I loved this set of baby remote controls because they look so much like Firestick and Roku remotes! While colorful, bulky toy remotes have their place in the play space, I think offering her something that looks just like our real remote has been fun for her. Another plus? These can be sterilized in hot water which means I can throw them in my sterilizer with her bottles each night to keep them clean!
NumNum Baby Spoon Set
We’ve recently started purees with our little one and these spoons have been amazing for practicing self-feeding. Before we started purees we introduced her to these spoons and another teether spoon we love so she had practice putting the spoon in her mouth before she even hit the high chair! During her very first feeding, she fed herself thanks to these spoons. While we do most of the feeding these days, we still love to offer her the spoon to feed herself and even just to chew on for a bit.
Honey Bear Straw Cup
With the start of purees comes the exploration of sipping from a straw, so the Honey Bear Straw Cup was another must for us in this next phase of parenthood. While we aren’t 100% on sipping through a straw, we have made some great progress and I like knowing that she’s relating this cup to her feedings in the high chair each day. Much like the baby remotes and the NumNum spoons, the Honey Bear Straw Cup is dishwasher safe and I like to put it in my sterilizer on a dry cycle to make sure it’s all clean before our next use.
Under the Tree for Baby
While this is probably our smallest Christmas gift-wise, I still wanted our girl to have some fun things to open for us to play with! If you’re a new mom and it’s getting close to a birthday or holiday, try to save any learning toys for that too. I found myself buying so many important learning toys, but realizing I needed to save them for under the tree! These are my favorites that I know we will get to play with for months and months to come.
Ball Drop Toy
As a Montessori kid myself, I have been waiting for the chance to experience Montessori-style play with my daughter. This ball drop toy from Adena Montessori is a perfect first piece to our eventual Montessori collection because it’s a game that she can enjoy long after Christmastime has passed. This set features three balls and each is a different color and texture. While she’s still learning the concept of dropping the ball through the hole in the top, I know she will get such great joy out of this toy as she continues to learn and grow.
Activity Cube
We’re working on sitting independently these days, but more importantly– sitting with proper posture to help her spine and body continue to develop! I did a lot of online research and learned that activity cubes are a great way to promote that proper posture concept and help babies sit independently longer. This VTech Busy Learners Activity Cube is the perfect size for sitting and exploring the cube. It features five sides of fun, interactive play which keeps my girl learning!
Push and Pull Learning Activity Walker
At the Killebrew house we’re still mastering crawling and sitting, but pulling up to stand and walking won’t be far behind. This activity walker is great for two levels of play — play while sitting and practicing walking! The activities on the front and sides of the walker are the perfect height for the baby to sit and explore the elements. Once baby girl is ready to start walking, she can push this walker around to practice her balance. I chose this pale blue version because we loved the relaxing nautical theme. There are also pink, green, and natural versions of this walker as well!
Silicone Stacking Toys
At this age exploring new colors, textures, and shapes is an important part of playtime for babies. We already had a set of stacking cups that our baby loves to knock down, but we knew some other silicone toys would come in handy for future playtime. This three-in-one set of silicone Montessori toys covered all the bases! We have an array of silicone balls for play in different sizes and textures, a set of colorful blocks, and a set of stacking rings. In addition to sight and touch discovery, babies can use these toys as teethers too.
Fill & Spill Taco Toy
I’m a big fan of Melissa & Doug Toys for their quality and educational play efforts. For babies over six months, this soft taco toy features nine different textured “taco fillings” that they can practice pulling out of the shell. I also plan to add these to her sensory tissue box as more options to play with! As she gets older we can have fun choosing which toppings to fill the shell with when playing. I’m excited for many mommy and mini “taco” dates to come!
Ms. Rachel Sensory Toys
While Ms. Rachel hasn’t become a staple in our house yet, I was so excited when she launched her line of educational toys because she has so many fun ways to make learning fun. We first purchased the Ms. Rachel Surprise Learning Box to focus on mastering the Pincer Grasp. For Christmas, we received the Mrs. Rachel Sensory Learning Farm because learning animal sounds, counting, and identifying animals are big goals for our next few months of play. Both of these toys are soft and feature multiple physical props and a bonus learning card to help parents play and build skills with their children! I also love this Melissa & Doug Take-Along Farm for animal play.
Disney Princess Plush Dolls
This next gift suggestion is probably just limited to fellow Disney lovers, but it’s worth sharing! Disney has released a line of plush princess dolls and we snagged a few for our baby girl this Christmas. We started with Rapunzel, Cinderella, Belle, Tiana, Aurora, and Jasmine, but our plan is eventually to give her the whole collection as we continue to introduce their movies! Our daughter has recently become interested in plush and the different textures and details in each princess plush are simply adorable. I can’t wait for her to establish favorites and cuddle with them on future Disney movie nights!
If you’re shopping online at the Disney Store, make sure you’re using Rakuten. While most of the time they only offer 2-4% cashback, for the holidays they kick it up to 10% cashback which means major savings on purchases you’re already making! If you haven’t signed up for Rakuten yet, you can join here and get an extra $30 bonus when you make your first purchase.
Personalized Anywhere Chair
This cute and cozy furniture piece is something I always wanted as a child, so receiving one for my daughter from her CoCo this year made me so happy. Anywhere Chairs are available at Pottery Barn Kids in an array of colors and fabrics to fit any style or aesthetic! We wanted something pink and classic for baby girl’s room, but one great thing about Anywhere Chairs is that their covers are washable and removable! So if you choose to change your style, all you need to order is the new cover. Pottery Barn Kids features My First Anywhere Chair, Kids Anywhere Chair, Oversized Anywhere Chair, and Anywhere Lounger. We went with the Kids Anywhere Chair so we could get plenty of years out of this fun and personalized piece!
Harppa Baby Playpen
Our other big Christmas present from MoMo and PawPaw was a much-needed playpen. We’re officially out of the bouncer and swing stages, so I need a place to keep baby girl confined when I run to the bathroom or need to get a pumping session in. The Harppa Baby Playpen is great because it’s available in multiple sizes so you can make sure yours matches the space you desire. We went with our size because one of the building configurations fits perfectly on her playmat! There’s even enough room for us to play in the pen with her and if we decide we want to change the shape we can do so with ease. It also helps when trying to keep baby girl and Roux apart during playtime, too.
Every one of these gifts are items I put time into researching before purchasing. We wanted to make sure that any toys we’re purchasing for baby girl will grow with her while also helping her to reach her current and future milestones. I’m so excited to see how she plays with these fun new fundamental toys for months and years to come!
I try to share all of my favorites on my blog, but I mostly share on LTK and Amazon so you can find even more from me there.
