Everything We Know So Far About Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

In Summer 2020, Walt Disney World announced that their classic log flume attraction, Splash Mountain, would be closing on both coasts to make way for a Princess and the Frog themed attraction. Over the past two years we received little updates here and there, but on July 1, 2022, a new name and opening year for this attraction were officially announced! To keep you up to date, we’re sharing everything we know so far about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

When Can We Expect This Attraction To Open?

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open in late 2024. With Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary coming to an end on April 1, 2023, we will likely see some changes coming to that side of Frontierland in Magic Kingdom shortly after.

Why Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

This all-new adventure will be bringing guests into the world of The Princess and the Frog like never before. This is Tiana’s world and story, so why not name the attraction after her? While the attraction will have the same name at both Magic Kingdom in Florida and Disneyland in California, there will be a few differences between the two attractions. For example, Tiana’s outfit will look slightly different on both coasts! We’re excited to see what details about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will drop over the next few years as late 2024 draws closer.

Where Was This Information Announced?

With the film and now attraction inspired by New Orleans, Louisiana, Disney couldn’t have imagined a better place to announce such exciting information than The Big Easy! As a part of ESSENCE Fest, a panel was held in the historic Preservation Hall to share the all-new details for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Here, the attraction’s name and opening year were announced and the voice of Mama Odie, Jenifer Lewis, gave a show stopping performance.

The panel discussion was moderated by Victoria Uwumarogie, senior lifestyle editor of ESSENCE Magazine. The panel included executive producer of relevance activations at Walt Disney Imagineering Charita Carter, executive creative director of Walt Disney Imagineering Ted Robledo, senior vice president of creative development – content, product, and inclusive strategies at Disney Parks Experiences and Products at Walt Disney Imagineering Carmen Smith, and daughter of the late Chef Leah Chase (the inspiration behind Tiana’s story), Stella Chase.

Why New Orleans?

Walt Disney Imagineers have become frequent travelers of the Bayou State, conducting research to ensure that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure preserves the heart and soul of the city that inspired it. Their research included consulting with local chefs, musicians, cultural institutions, and academics. While New Orleans, Louisiana provides the backdrop for The Princess and the Frog, Disney has stated that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a love letter to New Orleans in many ways.

What’s the Attraction’s Story?

According to Disney, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the popular film, Princess and the Frog. In this attraction, the story will pick up where the film left off. Join Princess Tiana, Naveen, and Louis the jazz-loving alligator on a bayou adventure as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration. Guess what? We’re all invited! We can expect to encounter some familiar faces on our adventure along with some new friends. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will also feature original music inspired by the music from The Princess and the Frog.
