The Ultimate Guide to TRON Lightcycle / Run

Magic Kingdom’s newest coaster is opening to the public on April 4, 2023, but we got to check it out early during a Cast Member Preview. TRON Lightcycle / Run will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park around the globe! Inspired by TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland, this new coaster brings a new futuristic element to Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland.

With its opening date quickly approaching, we’re ready to share our top tips for experiencing this EPIC new coaster!

Locker System

TRON Lightcycle / Run is unlike most Disney coasters in many ways, but storage is a big one. For the first time at a Disney park, guests will be required to stow away any items smaller than a cell phone in double-sided lockers for their riding experience. These lockers will be linked with your MagicBand, MagicBand+, or physical ticket. From what we understand, Disney MagicMobile on your smartphone won’t link to the lockers.

Once you’ve locked up your belongings, make a note of your locker number. Once you’ve completed your journey into the grid, you’ll need to locate your locker to grab your stuff! If you’re wondering where your cell phone goes, there’s a small compartment on the individual bikes that can store a cell phone or small wallet while you ride.

Dress To Impress

You’re joining Team Blue for this quest across the grid, so why not look your best? Have you seen our new TRON Shirt? This design is a must-have vintage Disney and retro Disney look with acid wash and new wave vibes. Meant to be worn not just inside but stylish enough outside Disney Parks for the ultimate fit in Disney clothes.

Secure Your Entry

When TRON Lightcycle / Run opens on April 4, 2023, access into the grid will only be available via Virtual Queue or Individual Lightning Lane. This means that, for now, Disney won’t be offering a standby queue for this long-awaited attraction! If you’re planning to enter the grid with a Virtual Queue, you’ll need to be on the My Disney Experience app right at 7:00 AM on the morning of the Magic Kingdom day to secure a boarding group.

If you’re unable to grab a boarding group, no need to worry! Individual Lightning Lanes will be available the day of for purchase. Since this attraction is so new, these Individual Lightning Lanes will move quickly, so it’s best to lock one in early in the day.

Capture Your Moment

We’re happy to share that TRON Lightcycle / Run will feature both an on-ride photo and video that will link to your My Disney Experience account! If you’re interested in keeping this memory, be sure to invest in Disney Memory Maker service prior to your Disney Vacation. Another way to grab those images would be through Disney Genie+, which will soon allow daily downloads of on-ride photos and videos as a part of the daily fee.

In addition to these can’t-miss on-ride shots, there will also be Disney PhotoPass photographers stationed throughout the queue. One of our favorite shots is with the TRON Lightcycle / Run sign! These photographers usually offer props, pose ideas, and even sometimes Magic Shots, so have fun with it.
