The United States of PIXAR
Pixar quickly became a household name after the success of the first feature-length computer-animated film, Toy Story, in 1995. Almost 25 years later they continue break the mold again and again with their imaginative and innovative films. The month of June has been pretty big for Pixar Animation as well! From the recent release of their 20th film, Incredibles 2, to the openings of both Pixar Pier and Toy Story Land, it’s safe to say that Pixar is on cloud nine. As an (almost) lifelong Pixar fan I can’t help but share in the excitement of all of these successes! (You can learn all about Pixar’s full story in my favorite book, Creativity Inc.)
It’s no surprise that I’m not the only one excited about this Pixar-filled summer! In celebration of the recent release of Incredibles 2, Cabletv.com analyzed Google Trends data for the first 19 Pixar films to determine the most popular Pixar movie in each state! When this information was brought to my attention I just had to share. Who wouldn’t want to know which Pixar movie ranked highest in their state?!
Of all the Pixar films, Finding Dory was by far the most popular in the United States. This film was the favorite of 17 out of 50!
Although Finding Dory was the most popular movie among many states — all movies were represented on the list of frequently googled Pixar movies. (Which says a lot about the quality of film that Pixar consistently delivers to the big screen!)
Surprisingly each Pixar sequel proved to be at least as popular as the original — and in some cases more popular! For example, according to this data, Finding Dory is eight times more popular among states than Finding Nemo.
While most states had a clear winner as their most popular Pixar movie, one state had a seven-way tie! Utah loves Pixar movies so much that they couldn’t pick just one. A Bug’s Life, Brave, Cars 3, Inside Out, Monster’s Inc., The Incredibles, and UP were all ranked number one in this state! (Can you blame them though?!)
You can check out Cabletv.com‘s original post here to see all of the interesting connections they found between the states and their choice of favorite Pixar movie!
Much like my home state (Louisiana), the Toy Story movies are some of my favorite Pixar Films. For this reason, I’m very excited to have the chance to pop over to Orlando this weekend for the opening day of Toy Story Land! My Pixar-loving heart can’t wait for the memorable weekend ahead. To infinity and beyond!
Which movie is most popular in your state? Does it match your answer? Let me know!
