Our Warner Bros. Studio Tour
When we decided to honeymoon in Southern California, we knew we wanted to cover a lot of ground along the way. Other than places to stay throughout the week, little was preplanned for our Honeymoon. We did this so we could go with the flow and take everything in that SoCal had to offer! After staying in Laguna Beach, we ventured out to Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Burbank. We saw the Hollywood sign, walked the Walk of Fame, and visited the Chinese Theatre!
Nick and I have always been really into movies, so we decided to do a studio tour. After a little research on what tours were available, we decided on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour! As we checked out of our Laguna Beach hotel, I purchased on passes and we headed to Burbank! One great thing about the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is that you have the option to purchase your passes online in advance or onsite at the studio. Since we made the tour decision very last minute, it was reassuring to know that signing up was a quick process! The 3 hour Studio tour costs $55 per children and $65 per adult. You can save $3 per person by buying your passes in advance online! The more in-depth, 5 hour Deluxe tour costs $295 per person.
When we got there, we grabbed some coffee and breakfast at their Starbucks and waited for our tour group to called. Once our tour group was called, we watched a pre-tour film starring Ellen DeGeneres letting us know what was in store! After the film, we hopped on a tour bus and we were headed to the studio lot to see set from some of our favorite movies and shows.
One cool thing about the tour bus is that the drivers will ask what some of your favorite shows and movies are. Based on what you say, they will try to cater any fun facts about Warner Bros. Studios towards you! I let the driver know I was into shows like Pretty Little Liars, Full House, and Friends and he was sure to give me all the details! Some shows that were currently filming at Warner Bros. while we visited were Ellen, The Big Bang Theory, Pretty Little Liars, and Fuller House.
While the 3 hour tour as a whole was cool, my favorite part had to be visiting the backlots and soundstages! Did you know Warner Bros. Studios has 10 backlots and 30 soundstages on its 110-acre backlot? As the driving tour began, I immediately started to recognize locations that I’ve seen on TV. Immediately I knew I was in Rosewood, PA on the set of Pretty Little Liars! As someone who has watched this show since the beginning, I was totally fangirling the entire time!
We passed the iconic church, Rosewood High, and even some of the Liars’ houses! Did you know that Emily’s house in Pretty Little Liars was also Ross and Monica Gellar’s house for the prom episode in Friends?!
Also, Mona and Spencer live closer than you think. The front of the house is Mona’s and the back of the house is Spencer’s!
It was amazing to see how they were able to fit so many types of locations into their backlot! I’m definitely planning to do the more in-depth tour if I’m ever back in Hollywood because I could spend all day in the backlots!
After driving around, we were taken to Stage 25 to get a peek at the set of The Big Bang Theory!
Since this show was currently shooting at the time, we were not allowed to take any photos or videos while on the stage. Despite having no pictures to show for it, it was really awesome to get to see a set of a television show up close! It’s amazing to see the size difference between real life and a set. A set tends to be a lot smaller because unlike a person who sees depth through, a camera lacks depth and only sees through one eye. This allows for a smaller set to actually seem larger when filmed. While at Stage 25, we learned fun facts about the show, like the fact that all the elevator scenes are shot on one floor!
Next we were swept away to view the DC Universe exhibit! This was probably Nick’s favorite part because they had an entire section devoted to Suicide Squad that had just wrapped up filming! He loved looking at all of the costumes. After viewing the DC Universe exhibit, we were able to check out props and costumes from the Harry Potter series! It was amazing to see so many little details from the films along with explanations.
After all of this excitement, nothing could have prepared my husband for what he was about to see next! We were led into another building full of batmobiles!
There was every Batman vehicle you could imagine. From 1989 to 2016, there were vehicles and even the Bat Signal light!
Since the Dark Knight trilogy are some of Nick’s favorite movies, he loved the chance to be so close to iconic vehicles from the films.
The Warner Bros. Prop Department is a magical place for any movie lover! With over 200,000 square feet and four stories worth of props, you’re bound to find something you recognize!
We saw various props and learned something new about how props are used to create scenes like The White House with out actually being at The White House.
Once we finished in The Prop Department, we were on our way to Stage 48.
Friends lovers will LOVE this part of the tour! This was where we had the chance to sit down on the couch in Central Perk.
In the From Script to Screen exhibit, fans have a chance to see some of the show’s past scripts, as well as the set of Central Perk!
Believe it or not, at the time Nick had not seen Friends, so he didn’t truly understand the significance of getting to see these things.
Luckily, after going on the tour I was able to convince him to watch and he loves the show! (of course)
Next you have the chance to try riding on Harry Potter’s broom or the Bat-pod in a simulation sequence that you can purchase if you choose.
You also have a chance to try the Central Perk coffee for yourself at the real working Central Perk located in the studio. This is also a great place to find Friends souvenirs along with souvenirs from other films and series that took place at Warner Bros. Studios.
Looking back on our California honeymoon, I’m so glad that we put aside time to take the Warner Bros. Studios Tour! We not only learned a lot about shows and movies we love, but after the tour we felt like we had really had the Hollywood experience. Next time we’re in southern California, we will definitely be taking the tour again.
What would be your favorite part of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour?
